el Bote de Luz, an art space located in Canillas de Aceituno (Málaga), is organizing a classical guitar concert by Granada-born artist Alberto Cuéllar for a small audience on June 6. Cuéllar will perform a select catalog of masterpieces from the Spanish guitar repertoire. Among other works, he will delight us with Recuerdos de la Alhambra by Francisco Tárrega and Granada by Isaac Albéniz. He will also talk about music and reveal the secrets of some of the historic guitars he will be using in the concert, including a 1939 Santos Hernández guitar. At the end of the recital, a complimentary glass of wine will be offered and there will be an opportunity to chat with the artist.

Alberto Cuéllar belongs to a tradition of Granadan guitarists that dates back to the 19th century. His grandfather, the classical and flamenco guitarist Pepe Cuéllar, won first prize for guitar at the historic Concurso de Cante Jondo de Granada of 1922, organized by the composer Manuel de Falla, the poet Federico García Lorca, and other major Spanish cultural figures of the time: renowned painters, writers, and musicians, among them Andrés Segovia, of whom Pepe Cuéllar was a close friend.

Alberto Cuéllar earned his Bachelor of Music degree in classical guitar in 2000 from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, where he studied for four years with Professor Robert Brightmore. He has performed as a soloist in Spain, France, United Kingdon, India, China, Russia, Thailand, Japan, the United States, and Canada, among other countries.
