A resilient life in La Axarquía

Practical permaculture workshop for Mediterranean living

Owning land in La Axarquía region (Málaga) is rewarding, but increasingly demanding. Water scarcity, heat, erosion, and high maintenance are no longer occasional challenges; they’re the new normal. This 3-hour workshop offers a clear, practical introduction to permaculture as a design system, adapted specifically to La Axarquía.

But, what exactly is permaculture? It is an integrated land management approach that mimics natural ecosystems to cut waste, prevent pollution, maximize sustainability, protect wildlife, and improve land resilience and biodiversity. It aims to produce food and use land supportably and nondestructively, often becoming a lifestyle philosophy.

   IN THIS WORKSHOP YOU WILL

  • Understand the real challenges of La Axarquía’s climate.
  • Learn what permaculture truly is; and what it is not.
  • Discover how water, shade, wind and terrain shape your finca.
  • Identify common design mistakes that create unnecessary work.
  • Take part in a guided design exercise that you can apply to your own land.

   WHO IS IT FOR?

  • Residents in La Axarquía.
  • People seeking practical, realistic solutions.
  • Anyone who wants a more resilient, low-maintenance lifestyle.
    (No prior knowledge required.)

   WHO RUNS IT?

The workshop will be led by German agronomist and consultant Felicitas Flöchinger, who has over 30 years of international experience in sustainable agriculture, food security and climate-adapted land design. Felicitas holds a PhD in Agronomy and a Permaculture Design Certificate. Her professional career spans Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia, where she has worked on drought resilience, agroecology, agroforestry, erosion control, and climate-smart agriculture. Since 2020, she has been living in La Axarquía, where she is actively developing her own finca, under permaculture principles.
